NIN-CJ Quick-Fire Newsdesk 2025 – Global Insights, Shared Practice, Real Conversations
The International Network for Criminal Justice (IN-CJ) is pleased to confirm the programme for the Quick-Fire Newsdesk 2025, taking place online on Thursday 4 December, 13:00–17:00 GMT. This year’s gathering brings together practitioners, researchers, and advocates from across the world for a series of short, focused conversations about the work they are undertaking and the challenges and opportunities they are seeing in criminal justice practice today.
The Quick-Fire format enables contributors to share insights in a concise and accessible way, with each segment lasting around fifteen minutes. Sessions will be streamed live, with some contributions shared as pre-recorded conversations, ensuring wide participation across time zones. The aim is to create an open and supportive space for exchange, reflection, and connection.
This year’s contributors include colleagues from probation, prisons, research centres, NGOs, and university-based projects working across Europe, Africa, and North America. Confirmed participants include:
- Shazad Ali Carbaidwala, Prisoner Visitation and Support, USA – offering frontline reflections informed by volunteer engagement and cross-cultural dialogue.
- Emma Regan, Abigail Tucker, Frank Porporino, and Shelly Brown – sharing insights shaped by experience in rehabilitation, service design, and organisational practice.
- Brian Hogan, Relationships-at-Work, Ireland – discussing restorative and relational approaches to justice settings.
- Carren Oluoch, Ngong Probation Office, Kenya – reflecting on probation practice in community contexts.
- Gemma María Varona Martínez, Basque Institute of Criminology, Spain – highlighting current research on crime, victimology, and policy development.
- Maria Puerto Solar Calvo, Spain – contributing comparative insights into European justice systems.
- John Scott, Reimagining Criminal Justice, UK – sharing perspectives on justice reform and systems change.
- Chelsey Narvey, USA – discussing developments in criminal justice research and professional practice.
- Additional contributions from Camille Racette Roussel and Deirdre O’Neill, with scheduling to be confirmed.
Each contribution offers a unique viewpoint on the evolving landscape of criminal justice. Together, they represent the depth and diversity of the IN-CJ network and its commitment to sharing practical knowledge across borders and disciplines.
The Newsdesk will be streamed via YouTube, with recordings made available afterwards through the IN-CJ website and podcast channels. This event is open to all network associates, partners, and colleagues with an interest in international criminal justice practice.
We look forward to welcoming you on 4 December and sharing the important work being carried out across the network. Your engagement helps build a stronger global community of practice—one that values collaborative learning, professional curiosity, and grounded insight.
