John Scott is an independent executive coach and strategy advisor. He is an experienced senior manager, who has led a major international organisation as President of the Confederation of European Probation. His career began as a serving probation officer, working in courts and supervising offenders. He was the youngest Chief Probation Officer in the country before entering the senior civil service. He has held several senior central UK Government strategy and policy posts, such as Head of the Public Protection Unit in the Home Office, with extensive Ministerial engagement on contentious cases and complex policy matters. He specialises in transformational change and design. In the Ministry of Justice he was Head of Design and Regulation in the Criminal Justice Group and led the Ministry’s Estates Transformation programme. He was Acting Director of Estates from February to August 2009. He possesses proven strategic and leadership skills with emphasis on a corporate approach, team work and development of staff. Particular strengths lie in multi-agency partnership work and negotiation across both professional and international boundaries. He has a strong track record on improving performance and innovation. Uniquely for a UK citizen, in September 2007, he was awarded the Gold Medal of Honour by the French Ministry of Justice in recognition of his work on behalf of European penitentiary organisations. He is a validated coach and was senior sponsor of the MoJ’s coaching scheme. As an accomplished speaker and writer, he frequently speaks at international events and is used as a trainer/facilitator.
